Q Now that you have learned about the Venetian Renaissance, I would like you to think about why the style is so different from High Renaissance art in the rest of Italy. Why do we study the Venetians separately from the rest of the Italian artists of the Renaissance? Also, please consider what elements the Venetians have in common with their contemporaries in the rest of Italy.

As much was elaboration was an important necessity for the High Renaissance, the Venetian Renaissance focused more on richer colors, detailed patterns, and played with light more. This created an effect of light and shadow with the lights and colors used to emphasize dramatically enhanced depths. Venetian art had the characteristic softness within it that make it more appealing to the viewer and often the settings would be outdoor or rural settings, with more reliance in oil paintings, and later shifted to more depictions of nudity and other sensual subjects.
